Sometimes the best improvements are the cheapest ones. Some even pay back.
Like eliminating the clutter, for example. You can transform a room just by getting rid of some "knick- knacks" and some pieces of furniture.
In addition, you can hold a garage sale and make some money out of selling the items you removed.
You can also donate some pieces to charity and get a nice tax deduction for it.

If you have iron water, of course you probably already know about "Iron Out" BUT... by cheating on the suggested usage, I have gotten iron stains off my shower tiles in seconds. I recommend you use it in a well ventilated area, of course, but if you mix equal parts Iron Out and water in a cup, to a paste consistency, then spread onto the tile with a sponge, let it stand for about 30 seconds, and practically wipe away the iron stains without scrubbing!!

Re-grouting your bathroom can be a tedious task but ultimately gives it a brand new finish and brings your tiles to life again. It is something I would recommend if you are on a budget!

Another suggestion is to take a clear glass bauble from a dollar store, and you mix epsom salt with beer to make a paste, and put it on in designs you want, it makes kind of an etched effect. :)

The ideas are ok, but what about the instructions? How about a nice picture with a list of what you need to make it?

I don't disagree that alternative income sources would help, but isn't this article talking about saving money? I like the article. Its good for those that are decorating their homes on a budget.

Thin white laminate should be available at any home improvement store, in the kitchen department -- think laminate for counter tops. They sell the individual sheets of laminate for those who want to build their own countertops.
