Bamboo & wool rugs

Bamboo Rug

Bamboo is one of the most eco-friendly materials because it grows and matures fast and the same plant can be cropped many times. It’s also strong (stronger than many hardwoods), hard-wearing and water-resistant. Read more about bamboo flooring if you want to find out more about it. Bamboo rugs are made of narrow strips of bamboo sewn together with a contrasting thread, or glued on a underlayment.  They are easily cleanable..

Where to use it?

In areas of heavy traffic, such as the family room, the hallway, the kids’ rooms and so on

It can be used in areas where food is eaten as dining room or kitchen.

Wool rug

Wool originates from animals rather than plants, which makes it warm & soft yet resilient. Wool is and has been the most popular of all the natural fibres – rugs & carpets have been made from it for thousands of years. Wool can be hand or machine made – braided, tufted/looped or piled. The tightly woven wool rugs resemble jute and sisal – but a very popular choice is a mixture of wool & jute or wool & sisal because the combinations of these materials reinforce the best qualities of both.

Where to use it?

Depending on its quality, wool is suitable for most domestic areas.

A wool rug can also be added to the bathroom for warmth & softness

There are other natural rugs that are becoming more popular such as paper rugs & leather rugs – not to mention the revival of the shag rug! You can read more about these under designer rugs.
