Spring Cleaning

It’s spring time – which normally means longer days, sunshine, flowers – and spring cleaning. If you’re like me and hate cleaning but like things clean you could follow the following design tips to avoid or at least shorten the experience of the yearly spring clean..

1,Have wooden floors

It’s easy maintenance: not only hardwearing but you only need to vacuum clean then wipe it with those floor-wipes. If you find wooden floors too expensive, even laminates are better than carpets.

2, Forget carpet

Too much hassle, they need to be professionally cleaned once or twice a year, they show marks & dirt, you have to careful with food& drink& pets etc etc…. If you like the texture of carpet under your feet, buy some machine-washable rugs. No worries then if you spill something over it.

3, Curtains are trouble

They need to be washed or dry cleaned once a year. If you find this procedure too time-consuming, don’t have them. Opt for blinds or wooden shutters instead. Blinds can be cleaned in the bath or, if they are too wide, you can give them a shower in the garden…

4, Cushions

Buy similarly coloured cushions, make sure the covers are machine washable. Wash them once a year.

5, Sofas and chairs

Leather is good choice as it requires little maintenance (just wiping). If you prefer upholstered sofas and chairs make sure they have removable covers that you can pop into your washing machine. If they don’t, cover them up with blankets – then wash the blankets occasionally.
