Valentine’s Day

Today is Valentines’ day. You could surprise your loved one with a quick home makeover. You don’t need to spend much money or time on this project – just use your imagination.

We have already published a couple of articles about decorating your home for Valentine’s day – in a traditional or in a trendy theme..

However, if you’ve run out of time or just don’t have enough time to prepare everything, you can always use your credit card to buy a few essential items. These you can get in a bigger supermarket and/or a Home Store. These are:

  • Scented candles
  • Red, black or pink ribbons
  • Red, black or pink silk cushions, throws and bedding
  • Red, black or powder pink roses
  • Luxurious chocolate
  • Champagne
  • Red balloons or rose petals

Tie the ribbons around vases, glasses and other ornaments around your home. Chill the champagne, display the roses in a vase and use it as a central piece in your living room.  Dress your bed with the cushions and the new bedding. Make it look sexy and opulent but not schmaltzy. Attach the balloons to the bed frame and scatter the rose petals around the bed (or in the bath). Light the candles at least half an hour before your loved one returns home to fill the space with their aroma. Put the chocolate pieces into a couple of bowls and put these on the bedside & coffee tables.

Ideally you should prepare a surprise meal, but if you don’t want to or don’t have time to cook – order some take-out (something special, not a pizza!). Alternatively, decorate your home in advance, and take your loved one out for dinner. Do not levae any lit candles when you go out!

Lastly, don’t feel pressurised to be romantic today – if you don’t feel like being so because you’re tired, sad or stressed out – just forget about it and have a restful evening – watch a DVD, listen to some music or read a book.
