Color Combinations

Question

I have burgundy carpet in my living room and dining room. Blue leather furniture in the LR, cream color dining room set. Gold accents in both rooms including gold curtains in the LR. I don't know what colors to paint my LR and DR and I need help with the window treatments in the DR.

Hi Michael,
You certainly have a very daring interior! I always recommend to clients that they keep the walls simple and clean – a kind of a canvas for the color scheme. Alternatively wallpaper or a large artwork can be used to create a ‘feature’ wall. In your case you are already using strong colors elsewhere therefore it is best to keep the walls simple and light. So I recommend that you go for an ivory color in a pearly finish to offset the gold accents. Note that metallic colors, particularly gold, should be used in moderation and with subtlety to create an understated effect.
As far as the window treatment in the dining room is concerned, it really depends on the style of the rest of the room – elegant, modern, traditional, retro etc.
