planning

August is the month of vacation. You might have noticed that we have not written on the DIY Together blog since May. No, we haven’t been on vacation since then, but have been rather busy with our sister sites. Also, two of us have had a baby and been on maternity leave. So expect lots of DIY, decorating and design advice re baby rooms in the future!
But to get back to August – it’s a good time to look around your home and assess the situation. Do any of your rooms need remodelling? Does anything need to be repaired, redecorated or just freshened up?  Yes?..

So let’s start planning:

First write down what needs to be done and create a to-do-list then look around for inspirations – go to home stores, buy a few magazines, collect images & objects. Also, take photos of anything that you like and inspires your senses – these could be clothes, objects, ornaments, plants etc. Then add everything together in a scrapbook – believe me, soon some kind of theme will emerge. Translate this theme into materials, colors & fabrics and there you go, you’re ready to source everything you’ll need.

Remember to be organised. Don’t start any work before you have bought everything – you don’t want to have to keep going back to DIY & Home stores.

Most people want get things done by Xmas. This is quite a silly deadline as Christmas has its own stresses and decoration hassles. Try to get things done in the autumn so that you’ll be able to concentrate on other things just before Christmas!
Anyway, I know it’s only August now, but Thanksgiving will be around the corner in only a moment – that’s when the usual home decorating panic sets in for most of us. So get organised now; do things slowly and allow plenty of time for designing any desired scheme and getting the necessary works done. Just get yourself a notebook, a glass of wine and a pencil – now start dreaming up and planning your new, refreshed or completely remodelled home! You can even do this on your vacation!
